Woman is suspect in $10,000 embezzlement

Money missing from housing authority

Kinston police want to question a former employee of the Kinston Housing Authority about the embezzlement of $10,000.

Investigators say Tori Jones, 27, was an administrative receptionist for the housing agency, and responsible for accepting tenants' rent payments. Jones resigned in April and gave her employee two weeks notice.

Police say part of Jones' job was to accept rent money and deposit it in the housing authority's bank account.

"After she quit they started discovering something was not right with their books," Kinston Public Safety Cmdr. Greg Thompson said. "This is the result of a month-long investigation."

Jones' last known address was 103 Wingate Dr., but police believe she might be living now somewhere in Pitt County.

Thompson said a warrant has been issued for Jones and Kinston investigators are working with Greenville and Pitt County law enforcement officials to find the woman.
