Adkin High School Alumni, D.C. Chapter will sponsor a concert featuring the D.C. Boys Choir of Washington, at 3 p.m. June 17 at the Grainger Hill Performing Arts Center, 300 Park Ave.
The D.C. Boys Choir is a group of musically talented young male students, established to help develop self-esteem by revealing and nurturing their creativity through artistic expression.
Eleanor Darden Stewart, founder and artistic director of the choir, is an Adkin High School Alumnae.
The choir has performed at the White House, at the Congressional Gold Medal ceremony honoring Mother Teresa and at the Capitol Rotunda. The choir represented the District of Columbia at the International Children's Choir Festival at the Canterbury Cathedral, Canterbury, England, in 2001. The choir also performed concerts in London at the Vilar Floral Hall Royal Opera House and at the Englise St. Joseph in Paris, France.
The choir also represented the District of Columbia in American Musical Salute commemorating Austria's Millennium. Performances were held in Vienna, Salzburg and Innsbruck. Concerts were also performed in Lucerne, Switzerland and Paris.
The D.C. Boys Choir has established itself as one of the premier youth choirs in the nation. From its inception in 1993, sponsored by the Gifted and Talented Education Program of the District of Columbia Public Schools, and as a local and community choral group, the choir has emerged on the national and international scene with honor and distinction.
Under the leadership of Eleanor Stewart, a retired vocal music teacher in the District of Columbia Public Schools, the D.C. Boys Choir has a long and distinguished list of outstanding command performances from Harlem to the White House.
