A familiar name on the Lenoir County economic map announced a new project Monday afternoon with the possible addition of up to 100 jobs.
Harold Thomas, manager of the Kinston DuPont plant joined by Sanford Jordan of the North Carolina Department of Commerce agreed the new jobs would be good jobs for years to come.
The production of a new polymer, which is used to make carpet and fabric, should add 30 jobs next year and another 30 the year after.
The Kinston Dupont plant opened in 1953 and at one time employed approximately 4000 people. Gaining fame in the 1970's as the World's First Polyester Plant, the plant has continued a presence at it's original site since it was sold to Unifi.
Chemicals are currently used to produce the new polymer, but in the future the product will be made from corn and will be more environmentally friendly.
