Cause of KHS fire determined

From staff reports
Posted: 4:20 PM EST Thursday February 2, 2006

A fire in the Kinston High School weight room Wednesday morning probably was caused by an electrical shortage.

Kinston Assistant Fire Chief Bill Johnson said a short in the electric heating system is being blamed for the fire that destroyed the roof of the building and some of the weight equipment.

The weight room is in a concrete block building a short distance from the main high school building.

The fire was reported to the 911 emergency dispatch center at 7 a.m. Wednesday. Students had not arrived at the school when the fire broke out. No one was injured in the incident.
