Anthony Mitchell, a Pink Hill district Democrat, will challenge Claude Stroud, another Democrat, for the open seat on the Lenoir County Board of Commissioners, thereby requiring a May primary election.

Both men will try for the seat being vacated by Commissioner Wayne Pittman, who decided not to run for a second term.

Filing for reelection to his seat on the Lenoir County Board of Elections was David Fillippeli from District 2.

Dr. Keith Seaforth, the school board representative from District 5, has not indicated yet whether he will seek another term on the board.

The school board has three seats up for re-election. Clay Howard from District 1 will not run for a second term. No one has filed yet for Howard’s seat.

Three seats are open on the county Board of Commissioners. Incumbents George Graham and Chris Humphrey filed Monday, the first day for declaring candidacy. Neither candidate has a challenger so far.

Several judgeships are open, but still are without candidates.

Filing ends Feb 28. The primary will be held May 2.
