Buying a stamp, paying your electric bill or having a quick talk with your banker are tasks residents should get done today or Friday. With Christmas falling on Sunday this year, federal, county and city offices will be closed Monday.
Picking up a last-minute bag of sugar can wait until Saturday, but don't run out on Christmas Day. Many grocery stores will close early Christmas Eve and won't reopen until Monday. Gas stations are hit-or-miss, although finding gas shouldn't be too much of a problem on Christmas. Several stations indicated that they intend to be open with only a handful planning to close.
Today is the last day until Tuesday to return or check out a book at the Neuse Regional Library. All branches will be closed Friday and won't reopen until Tuesday.
Last-minute shoppers can hit most retail stores until 6 p.m. Saturday and be ready to fight the crowds again bright and early Monday for after-Christmas sales.
Almost all churches in the area will be open for services Sunday, despite some churches in other parts of the U.S. that have said they will be closed since Christmas falls on Sunday.
If neither football nor basketball is your cup of tea, you'll be able to take in a movie after Christmas dinner. Premiere Theater will be open.
And if cooking dinner seems like too much of a chore, several restaurants in town will be open Christmas Day. Call ahead to make sure your favorite dining spot is open.
