Police are searching for leads in the shooting of a 27-year-old Kinston man gunned down today.
Marquis Arrington was shot in the back at 1:43 p.m. today while he was in the 700 block of East Bright Street. Several shots were fired but it is unclear how many bullets struck Arrington.
The shooter, as yet unidentified, is believed to have been driving a four-door burgundy car, possibly a Toyota, Kinston Public Safety Department Cmdr. Greg Thompson said.
Arrington was taken to Lenoir Memorial Hospital and then flown by EastCare to Pitt Memorial Hospital where he was still in surgery at 4:30 today.
Police are talking with witnesses who are cooperating “a little,” Thompson said.
The shooter apparently drove up to where Arrington was standing, got out of his car, shot the victim, and drove away.
This is the second shooting in Kinston in a week. On April 5, Marquis Williams, 18, was shot while at the corner of Bright and McDaniels streets. Anthony Holloway, Leslie Conner Jr., and Tony Pernell Rouse are charged with the shooting. The men are being held in Lenoir County Jail on a $75,000 bond each. |
