A LaGrange man was arrested Wednesday night for a shooting that critically wounded a Kinston man earlier that day.
Brad Vondell Clark, 27, was arrested at his home at 104 Hadley St., at 9:45 p.m. Wednesday by investigators from the Kinston Public Safety Department, LaGrange police and Lenoir County Sheriff’s Department. Clark is charged with two counts of assault with a deadly weapon intending to inflict bodily harm or kill. He is being held in Lenoir County Jail on a $100,000 bond.
Police say Clark shot Marquis Arrington in the back Wednesday afternoon while Arrington, 27, was in the 700 block of East Bright Street. Several shots were fired but it is unclear how many struck Arrington. Investigators believe at least one bullet was fired into an occupied house.
Details on the shooting and the arrest are sketchy, but more information is expected to be available Thursday morning.
Arrington was taken to Lenoir Memorial Hospital Wednesday afternoon and then flown by EastCare to Pitt Memorial Hospital for surgery. He was listed in critical condition late Wednesday night.
Clark apparently drove up to where Arrington was standing, got out of his car, shot the victim, and drove away, Kinston Public Safety Department Cmdr. Greg Thompson said late Wednesday afternoon. Witnesses to the shooting were described as cooperating “a little.”
This is the second shooting in Kinston in a week. On April 5, Marquis Williams, 18, was shot while at the corner of Bright and McDaniels streets. Anthony Holloway, Leslie Conner Jr., and Tony Pernell Rouse are charged with the shooting. The men are being held in Lenoir County Jail on a $75,000 bond each. |
